Infuse these liquorice sticks to flavour syrups, creams and even fish sauces

You can eat these bittersweet liquorice sticks like sweets.

They can also be used to suppress the urge to smoke or as a thirst quencher.

Liquorice comes from the latin glykyrrhiza, which literally means "sweet root". Carl von Linné used the Greek name as the botanical genus of liquorice. Theophrastus wrote in 300 BC that liquorice "could act as a thirst quencher if kept in the mouth". At the time, liquorice, which was easy to chew, and dried cheese, which could be kept for a long time, were used together as provisions for nomades.
